Reeth Show

Monday 31st August
The 112th Annual Show

About

The first Reeth Show was held in 1900. Subscriptions were £154-1-6d and gate money £59-1-9d. It was held in the fields where the sheep are shown today and the next one a car park.

Until 1924 the sheep classes were for White and Black-face but in 1925 these classes were to be known as Wensleydale and Swaledale respectively; following on were the Teeswater, Masham, Blue-faced Leicester, Mules, Dales-bred and other breeds which are seen today.

At some, as yet. unknown time the Show moved to the site at the Reeth side of the bridge and remained there until the 1970s when it moved to its present site.

The Show has been held every year except for two World Wars, foot and mouth disease, Hurricane Charlie and more recently Covid.

In early days the cattle were all Shorthorns until the late 1940s when Friesians were introduced; now there are beef cattle.

An excellent display of Produce, Horticulture and Handicrafts can be viewed in the very large exhibition tent.

Trade stands are now part of the atmosphere on display all around the venue.

Attractions that have come and gone include Show Jumping, Pedigree Dog Show, Cats, Poultry and the Royal Signals Motor Cycle Display Team.

After moving to the present site, Fell running was introduced with the Great Fremington Edge Race which has been very successful and is now recognised as one of the spectacular events of the Show and a great attraction every year with hundreds of runners of all ages and gender.
